Fused Flowers & Flower Bowls
This will make a for a beautiful Mother's Day gift! Glass Fusing is a fascinating media, you can shape it, stack it, weave it or melt it into a puddle! Each student will learn about the glass fusing process in this introductory class. No experience necessary and no glass cutting will be required for this intro level class. This class is suitable for adults, seniors, and teens over 16 years of age. Materials and Tools information below. N95 Mask is recommended for safety.
Each student will complete a 9" Glass Flower Bowl using a frit slurry process and other glass embellishments to create an artistic design on a 9" circle of clear fusible glass. The glass is fired on top of flower shaped molds, which fuses the class components together and slumps the glass into the shape of a flower at the same time. These flower bowls make great pieces for tabletop or wall display. This class is happening during our Blooms at the Buell on Saturday, May 9, our Community Access Day! A day full of activities throughout the day, FREE admission, half price membership offers and more! Click the link for more info!
Students are encouraged to bring a beverage and a snack or lunch when classes interfere with their normal eating times. There is a drinking fountain in the hall, but there are no vending machines on site.
MATERIALS & TOOLS:
Due to the nature of this class, at brief periods of time students may be working with glass powders. This being the case, we ask students to bring an N-95 mask for safety. This mask will be worn while handling the glass powders and isn’t required to be worn for the whole class. The studio will have a limited number of respirators available for class use, however, if you are able to bring a personal safety mask, this would be recommended. Other than personal safety masks, all materials and tools will be provided by the Instructor, Nell Trask, or by the Arts Center.
FIRING POLICY:
The projects will be fired and available for pick up at Sangre de Cristo Art Center one week following the conclusion of your class, unless otherwise specified by your instructor.
